The Wedlakes: 3 Generations to Look After Your Real Estate Needs

It is every entrepreneur’s dream that one day their children will continue the legacy.. For Frances Wedlake that dream was realized not only with her son, Ken, but again when her grand daughter, Jennifer Wedlake recently joined the team in March. “There are lots of parents and children working as teams but I think we are the only team in Oakville that spans 3 generations” says Frances, proudly. Although Jennifer was very familiar with real estate – after all, the entire family was involved – Jennifer had her sights set on the culinary industry. “I felt this was the most secure job for me” says Jennifer, “after all, we all have to eat to live!” Her first job in high school was in a restaurant and her step mother, whose family consisted of over 50 members (over 70 when her father’s side was included), would wake her up at 5 am on the morning of family gatherings so that she could help with the cooking. She attended and graduated from the 2 year program for Culinary Arts at Niagara College and worked in kitchens for the following 13 years. “It’s very tough on the body” says Jennifer, referring to the restaurant industry, “you’re scheduled for 8 hours but you always end up working 14 plus the shift work can be gruelling – actually it’s a lot like real estate” she...

The Hisey-McDermott Team: 50+ Years Combined Experience Moving You In The Right Direction

Heather Hisey’s career in Real Estate began at a very early age: when she was five years old her father, one of Oakville’s pioneer realtors, took her with him door knocking on the street where they lived. “He would introduce himself and tell the neighbours what he did for a living. After about the tenth house he allowed me to do the talking” says Heather. “I introduced him to the Bennett family and about 25 to 30 years later they actually called us to sell their house!” Lezlie McDermott’s passion for real estate started a little later but still early on. When she was seventeen she worked at the reception desk at Century 21 Miller Real Estate Ltd. “That’s how I met Heather” she says. “She would come into the office with her dad”. Lezlie went on to study in Halifax and spent a few years travelling. When she moved back to Oakville she got her realtors license while working as an administrative assistant to 3 local realtors. The two ladies got together in 2009 and formed The Hisey-McDermott Team. “It was a natural fit” says Lezlie. “I knew the business from the back end from all my years in administration while Heather had lots of experience working with clients.” Bronte is a big deal to both ladies. Not only did they both grow up there but they still...
